In this post, I am going to list top free Android based Blue light filter Apps.
As I had discussed in my previous post on Blue Light and Sleep, blue light emitted from our smart screens causes strain to our eyes and affects our health by altering our sleep cycle. Thankfully, there are apps on Google Playstore which help in filtering blue light and provide an easy on eyes viewing experience. Here are some of these apps which you can download from the Playstore for free.

Human beings have a biological clock (Circadian Rythm) and there are enough external stimuli that lead to altercation in this. One such thing is the Blue Light that our Smart Screens emit.
We have a Pineal Gland in our brain which releases melatonin (a hormone) in alignment with our biological clock. This hormone aids in our sleep. However, any light, especially the blue one, prevents its release, affecting our sleep. Prolonged exposure to such light can result in early morning dizziness apart from strain in our eyes.
Why am I telling all this? Because, most of us own smart screens these days – smartphones, tablets, laptops etc. When the day ends, we like to cuddle up in our beds, glued to these screens. Time goes by, we sleep quite late and are never fresh in the subsequent mornings. It’s like a hangover. Our productivity takes a hit and health goes for a toss.
What can we do to mitigate the effects of blue light? For one, we can reduce the time we are glued to our smart screens. Sounds tough in this age and date of information. What else? We can tweak with our smart screens and reduce the levels of blue light emitted. I discuss the second option in my post on “Blue Light Filter Apps”. Stay Tuned!
